Chaitra Navrati a divine festival of Indian Hindu culture

Today we will discuss about Chaitra Navratri a divine festival of Indian Hindu Culture and Why it is different than sharad Navaratri.

Navratri, this word is made up of two words – Nav means Nine and Ratri Means Nights. Navratri is a festival of Indian culture followed by the Hindus. There are 4 Navratris in a year but only two Navratries are very popular and known. First is Chaitra Navratri that comes in Month of March or April and second is Sharada Navratri that comes after Monsoon in month f September or October every year.

As per Indian Culture and myths, many states consider Chaitra Navratri as the beginning of the new year as with the divine blessing of Goddess Durga from this month’s new season starts with which new flowers, grain, and fruits start blossoming. Goddess Durga is the source of energy and strength so people do fasting and worship Goddess to get her blessings for salvation and inner strength for the future.

It is believed that in Chaitra Navratri, Lord Shiva allows Goddess Durga to go and meet their parents and stay with them for Nine Days. Navratri is also important to Indian Culture as during Navratri Goddess killed demon Mahisasur and established the victory of good over evil.

In Chaitra Navratri Lord Sun enters into first zodiac sing after completing his journey of passing through all 12 zodiac signs.

 As per Brahma Purana

Lord Brahma had started the creation of the Universe in Chaitra Navratri on the instructions of Goddess Durga. This is the reason why Chairtri Navratri is considered a New Year in Indian Hindu Culture. In Maharashtra, it starts with Gudi Padva. In Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamilnadu it starts with Ugadi. Navratri is celebrated as Nyepi in Indonesia.

It is also believed that on the third day of Chaitra Navratri, Lord Vishnu took his first Incarnation as Matsya Avtar to establish the earth. Even Lord Ram, the Seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu also was born on Ninth day that is known as Ram Navmi.

So let kill the demon inside us and let the good win on this auspicious festival. Let’s try to give up one bad habit and appreciate the good habits of others and pray Maa Durga to give us all the strength and power to become a good and pure human being as they sent us on this earth.
