Why Lord Krishna is known as Ranchod

As we all know Shree Krishna is eight incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who was born in Jail of Mathura as Devki & Vasudev’s son. And in his this lifetime he has done many divine activities and deeds of spreading love and defeating the evils. His such activities have left him a new name. So today we are going to discuss his one such name which is associated with Jarasandh, the King of Magadh. So let know Why Lord Krishna is known as Ranchod.


Why Lord Krishna is known as Ranchod

Kansa, the king of Mathura, had married with two daughters of Jarasandh, named Asti & Prapti, but as we know Kansa was killed Lord Krishna due to his evil deeds. Because of which both the daughters became widow and helpless which made Jarasandh very angry and so he decided to Kill Krishna at an cost. So to kill Shree Krishna he planned and attacked on Mathura 17 times, but every-time he had to face defeat. But this each attack and fight had created great loss of lives and properties of people which had hurt Lord Krishna a lot.

 But he did not stopped, he was getting more furious and planned to attack Mathura with many other King friends. As soon as Shree Krishna came to know about his planning, he decided to move to some other safer place from Mathura. Initially, Lord Balram, Ugrasenji and all the countrymen refused his idea of shifting saying this act will make him known as coward and it will be very shameful thing to be called with such name. On this Lord Krishna replied very softly that I am known with so many different names and people love me with those name also. I don’t mind being coward if it can protect my people.

 So with the help of Lord Vishwamitraji, Lord Krishna established Dwarika Nagari and shifted their with all the citizens of Mathura. When Jarasandh came to attack on Mathura with his alliance he found the city was empty and lifeless. This made him so angry and so he named Lord Krishna as Ranchod – The one who runaway from battlefield. Which Shree Krishna accepted happily and now people worship him with this name also.
